OVER VIEW history of the R.O.C. and Taiwan.

At the end of 1943 , Cairo Declaration was issued , including a clause that all territories of  china , including Formosa (Taiwan) that Japan had occupied would be returned to the Republic of China .\

This declaration was reiterated in the Potstam declaration in 1945.
On October 25 , 1945 in Taipei Zhongshan Hall , the R.O.C representative Chan Yi proclaimed “Taiwan Retrocession Day. ” When the 228 incident erupted on February 28 , 1947 , the U.S .   Consulate General in Taipei calling for immediate intervention in the name of the U.S. or the U.N.    In December 1949 as a result  of the Chinese civil war the R.O.C had retreated to Taiwan . The P.R.C was founded on the 1st of October 1949 .

On 8 , September 1950 , President Truman ordered John Foster Dulles to carry out his decision on “neutralizing” Taiwan in drafting the Treaty of Peace with Japan (SanFrancisco Peace Treaty) of 1951.

The Treaty of Taipei was concluded between the R.O.C and Japan on 18 April 1952(effective 5 August).

The Treaty of Taipei was abrogated by Japan in 1972.   After the R.O.C complained to the United Nation against the Soviet Union supporting the P.R.C the U.N General Assembly 505 was adopted on February 1,1952 to condemn the Soviet Union.

The R.O.C and the U.S.A. mutual Defense treaty of 1955 stated that the terms territorial and territories shall mean Taiwan and Pescadores.   However the Treaty was terminated in 1980.

On September 3, 1954, the first Taiwan Strait crisis began when the P.L.A started shelling Quemoy and threatened to take the Dachen Island.     On January 29 of 1955 the U.S congress passed the Formosa Resolution,  an America commitment to defend Formosa (Taiwan).

The R.O.C had been one of the founding members in the United Nations and held the China seat on the security council until 1971.

According to the U.N general Assembly Resolution 2758,(1971) the P.R.C became the successor government to the R.O.C in representing China.

On March 29, 1979, The U.S congress passed a bill (HR,2479) the Taiwan Relation Act, establishing a new relationship with Taiwan.

How  you  should think about,  whether unification /or independent of the future of Taiwan.
